Akassa Kingdom is one of the oldest and most historically significant
Ijaw Kingdoms in the Niger Delta, located in Akassa Local Government Area
of Bayelsa State, Nigeria. The Kingdom is renowned for its rich cultural
heritage, maritime traditions, ecological diversity and centuries of
leadership in coastal commerce, fishing and environmental stewardship.
Comprising eighteen (18) principal Kingdoms (towns and communities)
together with over one hundred satellite settlements, Akassa Kingdom
represents one of the largest traditional coastal settlements in West
Africa. Its people continue to preserve their customs while embracing
education, innovation, healthcare, sustainable development and economic
transformation.
